This lesson looks at the different types of information systems that are common in business and government organizations and their strategic value. In particular, it looks at the information requirements and the type of information tracked by such systems. The unit also covers the approaches used to construct information systems and common implementation methodologies.

Objectives
Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to
  • explain the difference between OLTP and OLAP information systems
  • discuss the value of information systems in organizations
  • list the different types of information systems employed in organizations
  • describe the major approaches to information system construction
